A good year to go to the movies

So I have notice, and I’m sure that you have too, that in this year a lot of great movies are coming, and some are long-awaited, like The Hobbit (first of two) and The Dark Knight Rises (The last Batman of Christopher Nolan’s saga). Then we have Avengers (no comments, just excitement), Prometheus (Who doesn’t like Alien?), MIB III (more aliens in a funny way, I hope), Resident Evil: Retribution (I like the resident evil movies, no story, a lot of action), The Expendables 2 (epic cast, don’t you think?), World War Z (zombies are always welcome), Django Unchained (for the Tarantino fans).

Then there are another movies that I could see at the theater but I’m not so exited, like: The Amazing Spider-man (I don’t know, maybe is great), Skyfall (Usually the Bond movies are good), Underworld: Awakening (For the action), The Bourne Legacy (The Bourne saga was very good), Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (I HATED the first one, but I’m willing to try again).

I’m sure there are a lot worthy movies out there that I haven’t mention, so this year I see myself eating tons of popcorn and drinking liters of iced tea (and dying young, lol).

If you know me (or read my blog) you should be asking yourself about The Hunger Games movie, well… I have already seen it, and I’m going to see it again when is released here in Spain. Let me tell you something, I don’t care that the book is a ripoff of a book setted in China or a Stephen King book, I loved The Hunger Games books and the movie is very good, everything that makes young people read again is OK with me, even if that book is (I’m saying this with a little bit of vomit in my mouth) Twilight. BARF!!!! LOL.

How was Easter?

Have a great month people!!!!!

A little bit of everything

Let’s start with books. I’m now in the middle of the 3rd and final book of The Hunger Games, it’s excellent, if you have the time to read the first book before the movie release it would be great, if you can’t or won’t I recommend you to go to see the movie at the movie theatre, I think and hope that it would be very very good, I can’t wait to see it, I’m very exited about it.

In the gaming subject I haven’t played a lot lately but I finished Halo and now I’m playing Half-life 2, I have played Half-life before, as always it has its annoying parts, but overall I like it.

Web comics… it’s a never ending story, I keep finding new ones, and I keep spending money on them. I’m stopping buying stuff, for a little while, je!

TV-wise. Well you may know that Terra Nova was cancelled, I think it was the right call, is an expensive and no so great series. A few weeks ago started a series called The River, is quite good, it has a little of Lost supernatural mystery, but I’m afraid that the ideas will run out fast, we will see. Another new series is Smash, my friend tells me that he think that is a Glee for grownups, jejeje, well I can only say that if you like musicals this might be the series for you ;-)

This weekend is a long one thanks to father’s day or San José here in Spain, and soon is Easter, so enjoy and be careful.

It has been more than a month since my last post so this time I’m covering myself…

Have a great month!!!!!!

Book post

Hello!!!

Sorry about last week, I didn't had an inch of inspiration. This week I am still a little blocked, but at least I have a topic: BOOKS!

My parents read in bed before sleeping every single night so I acquired that same routine. I’m a slow reader but I think I have read quite a lot. I like novels, am not fond of real stuff, like self-help or history (this one I’m a little ashamed of). In the fictional side I like almost everything.

In the mystery/murder/detective kind I have a blur in my head, sometimes I see my book shelf and I don’t know if I have read one of those, once I was finishing one of these books and 5 pages left to the end I realize that I knew the ending, I cursed my self because of my bad memory and for all the time I have wasted, like I told before am a slow reader. Since then I read the summary of the book like a thousand times to be sure and I try to separate the ones I'm sure I haven't read from the ones I have, the last one I read was The Tunnel, I think, LOL. The only mystery/murder/detective novels that I can surely distinct are the Agatha Christie ones, Murder in Mesopotamia and And Then There Were None (Ten Little Indians) are my favorites.

Then the classics, in this category I am a total chick, I love Little Women, Gone with the wind and Sense and Sensibility, and novel that I loooove that is girly but not a classic is Memoirs of a Geisha, great novel, I didn’t watch the movie, and I think I never will.

Horror!! Stephen King and Anne Rice. Stephen King we all know, many of his books have movies like Carrie, The Green Mile, Pet Sematary, Misery, The Shining, Cujo, Dreamcatcher (worst book and movie EVER!!!) and many many others, but these I have read. Anne Rice I think the only famous movie is Interview with the Vampire, I have read Merrick and Exit to Eden, this last book has explicit S&M moments, and some friends borrow it and they couldn’t read it, they skipped those moments that lasted pages and pages LOL, so a 300 page book became like a 100 page book for them.

Tolkien, Lewis, Rowling…
Fantasy, adventure, honor, friendship and a lot of books. Well I have to admit I haven’t finished the Narnia series. I prefer The Hobbit than the LOTR series, and the Goblet of Fire is my favorite HP book and I think that’s why it’s the movie I like the less (well I haven’t seen the last one yet).

Now I’m reading The Hunger Games, it was a gift (thanks again to you know who you are ;-)) and I really like it, I hope that the whole three books are as good as the few chapters I have read.

Have a great week!!!

A Bear post

Hello!!!

I think we can get another round of webcomics. So I have become addicted to a webcomic called Bear Nuts by Alison Acton, It’s about a Discount Zoo with very dysfunctional animals, the main characters are the bears, these have their personalities shown with a picture on their tummies like the Care Bears but a little bit creepier.

The boss is Prozac, he is the one on my profile pictures in FB and Google, and he has a pill as tummy symbol. Prozac is always maintaining the peace in the bear pit. Next in line is Death with a scull as symbol, Death is a very cool calm guy with some electrifying powers.

The trouble makers are Evil and Lech, Evil with a satanic star picture is the worst of all, always doing the cruelest pranks that most of the time gets out of hand. Lech is the horny bear and his symbol is a panty. He is no stranger to pranks and lately has team up with Evil, not a good combination for the sake of the rest of the zoo animals.

The ones who get most screw over are Gay and Nerd. Gay is just fabulous, he’s caring but not a fool, I think he has a rhinoceros as symbol. Nerd can’t get a break, poor guy. He only wants to do his starship models and dress like Captain Kirk, but always is someone screwing him. His picture is a hotdog, I think I read is because he is a wiener…

At last we have Tanked, Gimp, Crack and Vanity. Tanked is one of my favorites he is always drunk, he is one of the most caring and sweet when he isn’t puking, you can guess that his symbol is a jar of beer. Tank loves watching WWE. Gimp is out resident S&M guy, he is very quiet and his picture is handcuffs. Crack is just a very paranoid bear, he is afraid of everything, they all have tried to help him, but there is no way, his symbol is a needle (medical no the one we use to stitch). And our last character is Vanity he actually is a panda bear and he is a star (the star is also his symbol), all the humans loooove him, so his self-esteem is very high.

Some of the secondary animals are the monkeys, elephants, giraffes and the polar bears. The polar bears are the bullies of the zoo and the monkeys are the well deserved escape goats. Monkeys can be mean.

I think at last my obsession with webcomics is paying off. At last I have an idea for a webcomic, I have only written a couple of strips and now my next step is to learn how to draw and I am going to do something about that, for sure.

Have a great week!!!

Let’s PLAY!!!

Hello!!!

I don’t call my self a gamer but I do like to play video games, mobile games, board games… well I think almost any kind of games. Lately I have been playing some Xbox and I think is next to my beloved Wii, sorry for the Play Station fans, I think for most people all comes down to which game do you like more God of War (PS3) or Halo (Xbox 360), tons of games are for both consoles but these two are exclusive, yes, there are a lot of games that are exclusive for each console, but I think that God of War and Halo are the most famous ones, but at the end of the day I am a Mario kind of gal so that’s why Wii is my number one console.

So I haven’t played God of War but I have played other PS3 games and looking the games list of each console I think that Xbox has more variety of the three, PS3 doesn’t have enough fun dumb games and Wii have too much fun dumb games, so I will enjoy all the time I have with my friend’s Xbox, I have already finished Portal (one) and Bastion (mini game), now I’m playing Halo (one). Let me tell you Bastion is GREAT is those games you have to buy online, is not very long but is very fun to play, I think is a different kind of game and well accomplished. Portal gave me the creeps, is not cool when a robot ask where are you in a creepy voice and tries to kill you, besides that is a very very cool game, It makes you think in a different way, problem solving way and I like that very much, I love those puzzle games almost as much as the mindless stupid but really fun games LOL. And finally Halo, well who doesn’t like to shoot things, I like shooting aliens more than shooting people, but don’t get me wrong the next game I will be playing is Medal of Honor or something like that.

I’m going to give some credit to PS3, I have to say that Little Big Planet is one of the most creative games I have ever played, the best way to play it is multi player mode and it is a blast, sooo much fun. Wii… what can I say the Mario Bros franchise and Zelda, and every day more and more shooter games are been released for Wii, so for me Nintendo rule the most.

Mobile-wise now I’m playing Block Puzzle, Greedy Spider, World of Goo (the first time I player it was on my fabulous Wii) and the game I could not live without: Fruit Ninja (This game you can play it with the Xbox Kinect using your arms as swords, is very tiresome).

Have a great week!!!

Some new stuff you may like

Hello!!!

2012 is here, I hope everything goes according to yours new year plans and that the world doesn’t end, there are a couple of things I want to do before I die actually.

This last week I started watching a tv series called Misfits, is British so for me is quite hard to understand, my ears are custom to American english, but you know if you get the context and what is happening you don’t need to understand every word they are saying, I think. Misfits is in its third season and is very cool. Is about some guys that have to do community service for some criminal stuff they did, and a very strange storm came and they all got a super power, and the super power is linked to something they want or miss. They aren’t the only ones who got powers, there are a lot of people affected by the storm but most of the powers they got are harmless. There are like 7 episodes per season so you can get up to date very fast, well am only finishing the first season but I highly recommend you to give it a try.

So in the spirit of new things here are some new series I like: Homeland, Pan Am, The Walking Dead (well not that new), Ringer, Revenge, American Horror Story, Terra Nova (maybe is cancelled) and The Killing.

Homeland, is about the CIA branch trying to stop terrorists, and the main character (an agent) is certain that that the newly US hero is a terrorist. Pan Am is about the pilots and flight attendants in the 60’s, maybe it sounds boring but there is a back story about the cold war that makes this series watchable. The Walking Dead… well zombies, what else? Ringer, the main character sees a murder and is the main witness so she is in protected custody but she knows that she isn’t save so she escapes from the police and the murderer, and goes to her twin sister for help, the sister kills herself and she takes her place, but it seems that her sister was also involve in something bad. Revenge is a bout this girl who wants to, turum tum tum, revenge her father who was accused of founding terrorism, so she takes a new identity and gets into this social circle of betrayal and starts destroying peoples lives from the inside, but some things don’t go that well. American Horror Story, if you like creepy things this series you will like. Terra Nova, Dinosaurs!!!!! Well maybe this series will be cancelled, so if I where you I would wait if it gets renewed. The Killing, a murder, many suspects and politicians involved, a very refreshing police series.

In the lighter side there aren’t many new comedies that worth it, I started to watch New Girl and it got future, and Up All Night for those fans of Christina Applegate. There are a few starting this month like Are you there Chelsea? With Donna of That ‘70s Show. So in this subject I recommend you to get up to speed with the good old comedy series.

Have a great start this year!!!!!

The end is near

Hello!!!

So this is the last week of the year and I think I’m in the mood of reviewing movies.

I think I’m one of those people that like almost everything but I can admit when a movie I like is quite bad and also I have the quality of disliking movies that everybody loves, like La vita è bella, yeah I know, I’m out of my mind.

I don’t want to talk about just one movie. I think I would like to talk about a genre, and I think that maybe Thriller/Horror movies are a good one.

I loooove scary movies, even the gore ones. The good thing about horror movies even if the movie is really bad you can have fun watching it, maybe not the kind of fun the maker of the movie intended, but who cares? I am that kind of person who yells at the TV telling the people who are going to die to run, and not believing how stupid some characters are, and I have tons of fun doing it. But there are a few movies that scared me and those are the ones who deserve a comment today.

For me the scariest ones are those who are remakes of some Japanese movie, yeah maybe the original one is better, but I don’t know that the movie is a remake until long after I saw the USA version.  So for me The Ring, The Grudge and Dark Water are great, maybe Dark Water isn’t that great, but I like it, and I’m sure that I am missing a lot of great Japanese horror movies.  Then we have the Spanish ones, like REC, El Orfanato, Los ojos de Julia, The Others and Tesis. I didn’t see the American version of REC but I think is exactly the same. Then we have the “regular” ones, this are hard because some of them I think are quite good but in the verge of being totally awful, like Resident Evil, Saw, Scream and Final Destination, I know you are reading this with a WTF face, but remember I know I like bad movies, I think that the first movies of every one I just name are good movies, then the sequels… are another story, well actually I like Saw 2 better than the first one. The Sixth Sense, 28 days later, 28 weeks later, Paranormal Activity, The Bair Witch Project, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Omen, The hills have eyes, etc.

All the Hitchcock movies: The Birds, Vertigo, Rear Window, Strangers on a Train, etc. I’m sorry but I fell asleep watching Psycho. Stephen King movies: Carrie, The Shining and Pet Sematary. We have also the exorcism movies: The Exorcist, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Last Exorcism and The Rite.

So yes every one of those movies have made me at least jump a little bit in my seat, there are like 20 more horror movies out there that I have seen but I don’t remember, I have list like 30 and I think that is enough. Also there are scary movies I didn’t consider maybe because I think they are science fiction, or suspense more than horror.

So if you think I have missed some extraordinary movie, tell me, maybe I haven’t seen it yet.

Have a great new year’s eve.
