The end is near

Hello!!!

So this is the last week of the year and I think I’m in the mood of reviewing movies.

I think I’m one of those people that like almost everything but I can admit when a movie I like is quite bad and also I have the quality of disliking movies that everybody loves, like La vita è bella, yeah I know, I’m out of my mind.

I don’t want to talk about just one movie. I think I would like to talk about a genre, and I think that maybe Thriller/Horror movies are a good one.

I loooove scary movies, even the gore ones. The good thing about horror movies even if the movie is really bad you can have fun watching it, maybe not the kind of fun the maker of the movie intended, but who cares? I am that kind of person who yells at the TV telling the people who are going to die to run, and not believing how stupid some characters are, and I have tons of fun doing it. But there are a few movies that scared me and those are the ones who deserve a comment today.

For me the scariest ones are those who are remakes of some Japanese movie, yeah maybe the original one is better, but I don’t know that the movie is a remake until long after I saw the USA version.  So for me The Ring, The Grudge and Dark Water are great, maybe Dark Water isn’t that great, but I like it, and I’m sure that I am missing a lot of great Japanese horror movies.  Then we have the Spanish ones, like REC, El Orfanato, Los ojos de Julia, The Others and Tesis. I didn’t see the American version of REC but I think is exactly the same. Then we have the “regular” ones, this are hard because some of them I think are quite good but in the verge of being totally awful, like Resident Evil, Saw, Scream and Final Destination, I know you are reading this with a WTF face, but remember I know I like bad movies, I think that the first movies of every one I just name are good movies, then the sequels… are another story, well actually I like Saw 2 better than the first one. The Sixth Sense, 28 days later, 28 weeks later, Paranormal Activity, The Bair Witch Project, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Omen, The hills have eyes, etc.

All the Hitchcock movies: The Birds, Vertigo, Rear Window, Strangers on a Train, etc. I’m sorry but I fell asleep watching Psycho. Stephen King movies: Carrie, The Shining and Pet Sematary. We have also the exorcism movies: The Exorcist, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Last Exorcism and The Rite.

So yes every one of those movies have made me at least jump a little bit in my seat, there are like 20 more horror movies out there that I have seen but I don’t remember, I have list like 30 and I think that is enough. Also there are scary movies I didn’t consider maybe because I think they are science fiction, or suspense more than horror.

So if you think I have missed some extraordinary movie, tell me, maybe I haven’t seen it yet.

Have a great new year’s eve.

Holidays!!!!!

Greetings!!!!

So is Christmas week. The holidays this year suck, there should be a universal law that sets that always the 24th and 31st of December are on Thursdays, it would be great I think.

In this post I’m planning to talk about webcomics, I think is appropriate seeing that some of my friends think I should make one.

I have been reading a couple of webcomics for about 5 or 6 years, but last summer I became a webcomic junkie, and now I’m reading more than 30. I could read more but I think I have to work a little everyday, you know to pay the webcomic merchandise I bought, LOL.

I think all started when I was little and loved to read Garfield in the newspaper, it was a gateway to other comics like Calvin and Hobbes, Hägar the horrible (Olafo) and Blondie (Lorenzo y Pepita). So Internet came and all became digitized (yes looked this word out) and webcomics arrived, even our regular comics are now online, I now get my daily Garfield dosage without having to buy a newspaper or paying whatsoever, great right? It is great! But I used to get a little remorse of enjoying something so much and not help the creator to keep doing it, so now I spend a little of my money buying some of the webcomics merchandising, t-shirts and books mostly.

So which webcomic to review… I think that Sinfest deserves to be the first one.

“bally bally oh my golly!” Is what you get at the end of the website page. Tatsuya Ishida began Sinfest in January 2000 and 12 years later he keeps posting new strips almost every day, so yes there are a lot of strips, more than 4000 actually.

Is hard to describe the plot of the webcomic but I think writing about its characters you can get a picture of the situation.  I think that the main characters are Slick and Monique. Slick is always trying to get women been cool and pimp like, but it does not work at all, he is quite clueless. Monique is IT girl or tries to be, she is trendy and cool, sometimes she is anti system, like going against “imperialism”, but doesn’t last much. Surrounding these guys there are many characters, we have God (who mocks everyone), the Devil (the biggest enterprise and souls owner), Buddha (always Zen),the Chinese dragon (very nice but don’t mess with him), Squigley (Slick’s best friend and a pot head), Criminy (always reading under a tree), Jesus (kicks ass), Percy (the cat), Pooch (the dog), the Master (owner of pooch and percy, and maybe Tatsuya Ishida himself), Li’l Evil (the Devil number one fan), Seymour (he almost belongs in the Spanish inquisition) and many others.

So if you would like to see God doing a puppet show and playing ball with his son, yes Jesus. If you like seeing a pig getting stoned and flying around on a sofa. If you laugh of the disgrace of the people in hell and don’t quite respect any religion… this is the webcomic for you.

Happy Holidays!!!!

Ana is blogging, the horror!!!!!

Hello!!

I have seen some of my friends blogging, and one of them is getting really good at writing in English, so I decided to start my own blog to practice and share some of my worldly knowledge LOL. Actually the only thing I can think I could write about is Tv series, movies, webcomics and maybe books and music.

Normal people have hobbies like sports, music, personal projects, learning new languages, crafts... Me? Well, I notice that my hobby is to watch tv, a lot. I think that my brain is half baked because of it, many hours in front of the box can make you no only sedentary but lonely too, not in the sad way, but in the way that you not need real people as much (I know is kind of weird and sad). This makes me think that in the future I will become the crazy cat lady that my friends are predicting, LOL. Yes I have two beautiful cats, and no I don't want a third one.

So enough about me, lets talk about tv or some other crap.

These days there are like a hundred tv series that are watchable, really, I don't watch a 100 series but close to 50 for sure. There are of course my favorites and the ones to fill time. I love the ones that have those little details that only people who have seen the show from the beginning can get, like How I Met Your Mother. HIMYM is like the modern version of Friends, but better. The concept is very simple, is about a guy (Ted Mosby) telling his siblings how he met their mother. Yes is a comedy, but like any other comedy there are some sad parts, romantic parts and mostly hilarious parts :D . The stories of Ted always involve his friends: Barney, he always wears a suit and always hook up with girls and makes a challenge of it, and all his stories are “true stories”. Robin is the Canadian girl who wants to make it big in journalism and has some intimacy issues. Lily and Marshall are a couple since college and Ted oldest friends. Lily is a teacher and an artist wanna be and Marshall is a lawyer who wants to make the planet better. I forgot to tell you that Ted is an architect who really, really loves buildings and falls in love quite easily.

HIMYM is a show that I think anyone can enjoy.

Well this is all for today I hope that this didn’t suck as much, and I’ll love some review, questions or inputs.

Until next time!!!
